Upgrade to Windows 11 for older PC or laptop via official Microsoft image

Since Windows 11 has been available for a few years now and Windows 10 update support will also expire in October 2025!!
I would like to inform you about the options you have to upgrade to Windows 11.

You may have already used the option to upgrade to Windows 11 or you can still start the upgrade at a later date (I think you can select this under "Windows Update" and the upgrade takes a total of 1-3 hours).
You can simply start the upgrade to Windows 11 once and then your PC will work normally again as it did with Windows 10 (the layout looks a little different, but you just have to get used to it).

If the upgrade cannot start on a slightly older PC/laptop because "Windows Update" says that your PC/laptop does not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11... then there is a fairly simple solution for that (I have already applied it on 3 older laptops and a MacBook Pro with Intel CPU).

There is a way to bypass the minimum requirements test AND then Windows 11 will run as it should.

[ FROM HERE ONLY IF THE STANDARD UPGRADE VIA WINDOWS SETUP DOES NOT SUCCEED ]

Step 1: download the official ISO file of Windows 11 for your language via link https://www.microsoft.com/nl-nl/software-download/windows11 (choose language “Dutch” and then you will get the screen below) OR for English use the link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11.

Click on “64-bit Download” and a file with a name like “Win11….Dutch_x64.iso” / "Win11....English_x64.iso" (5.5 GB) will be downloaded.

Step 2: Double-click on that file (after it has downloaded 100%) and then a so-called “DVD mount” will be performed with a drive letter like “D:”.

Step 3: In Windows to the search bar and type “cmd” there. Then the search bar will find “Command Prompt” and right-click on it “Run as administrator” (or select in the current window next to it). When asked if you want to allow this, click “Yes”.

Step 4: In the Command Prompt, type “d:” (or the drive letter from Step 2) and then “cd sources” and then “setupprep /product server” (note the space between “product” and “server”). Then the Windows setup for Windows 11 starts..

Step 5: Click on “Change how Setup downloads updates” and select “Not now” and then click on “Next”.

Step 6: Agree to the terms and conditions: “Agree”.

Step 7: When choosing the type of upgrade, choose “Keep files, settings, and apps”..(then all data and software will be transferred to Windows 11).

Step 8: Click further and then wait until the installation is completely finished…may take a while😉
